Health & Safety (ATEX) Cleaning
Industrial ATEX cleaning is the removal of fine dust particles that when disturbed can cause a dangerous explosion. The ATEX directive consists of two EU directives describing what equipment and work environment is allowed in an environment with an explosive atmosphere. ATEX derives its name from the French title of the 94/9/EC directive: Appareils destinés à être utilisés en ATmosphères EXplosibles.
Often, workers don’t know that the dust lurking on flat surfaces could, when dispersed in a cloud, fuel a violent explosion. An ‘Explosive Atmosphere’ can be caused when flammable gases, mists, vapours or combustible dusts build up in a confined space. If there is enough of the substance, mixed with air, then all it needs is a source of ignition to cause the explosion. Explosions can cause loss of life and serious injuries as well as significant damage to plant and machinery and properties; however, using the correct equipment can help greatly in this.
